Migrate applications to AWS from on-prem to support business expansion and combat poor network connectivity

Throughout 2013 the business went through a significant expansion which required a relocation of their head office. Rather than physically moving their legacy IT infrastructure, Newtonwood chose to adopt a cloud based architecture. Within a tight timeframe the business needed to upgrade their Windows 2003 server and move their Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint applications to AWS. The legacy data center suffered from poor network connectivity and outages frequently occurred.
Onica implemented a highly available Exchange 2013 cluster within AWS. Their Windows 2003 applications were also migrated in a tethered fashion, as part of a lift and shift strategy. SharePoint was also migrated as-is from on-premises data center. As a result, Newtonwood was able to close down their onsite data center within four weeks of the project initiation following a full application cut over. System availability and performance is vastly improved and has achieved 100% up time to date. A payback of migration effort was recovered within 3.5 months of normal system operation.
